Our Work | Medicaid Food Security Network
National Medicaid Food Security Network
Mobilizing Medicaid Systems to become a key partner in food and nutrition security
MFSN is a learning action network of healthcare and food security stakeholders who are mobilizing Medicaid systems to become a key partner in addressing food and nutrition insecurity for children and families. MFSN members include anti-hunger organizations, Food is Medicine programs, state Medicaid agencies, managed care organizations, healthcare providers, and other food security champions.
By 2030, our goal is to expand the number of Medicaid-enrolled children and families who are connected proactively to sustainably funded Food is Medicine programs, including enhancing access to federal nutrition programs (SNAP and WIC) and services like produce prescriptions, and medically-tailored groceries and meals.
An estimated
14 million
Medicaid enrollees are food insecure, including 7 million children.

What We Do
We’ll achieve our mission through three key activities:
Develop and Distribute
We develop resources and advocacy tools for food-security and Medicaid stakeholders, including our Policy Dashboard.
Convene and Collaborate
We serve as the only national forum for collaboration around Medicaid’s role in food and nutrition security for children and families. We host events and write a News Digest to keep members up to date about work across different states and sectors.
Accelerate Policy Change
We share best practices and learnings from the Network to inform state and federal administrative policy change that maximizes Medicaid’s impact on food security. We accelerate policy change through funding and technical assistance in select states through the Medicaid Food Security Partners Program.
