About This Episode

On this special Mother’s Day 2026 episode of Add Passion and Stir, host Billy Shore and co-host Debbie Shore talk with Lauren Bush Lauren, founder of Feed, and Nance Hastings, chair of the National Mother’s Day Council and vice president of the Father’s Day Mother’s Day Council. Lauren shares how a college experience abroad and time with the World Food Program inspired her to create Feed, which has helped provide more than 128 million meals to children around the world. Nance reflects on a career in beauty and philanthropy, her work leading the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Councils, and the impact of fundraising for childhood hunger and family support. Together, they explore why mothers are central to children’s health, economic mobility, and long-term well-being, and why access to nutritious food matters just as much as access to food itself. This episode is a celebration of moms, mission-driven leadership, and the power of practical action to help children thrive.

Lauren Bush Lauren co-founded FEED Projects in 2007, which makes and sells bags with a portion of the sales donated to the United Nations World Food Programme to feed children in need around the world. Every FEED product has a number stamped on it that signifies the amount of meals or micronutrient packets provided with its purchase. National Mother’s Day Committee

In 1978, to better recognize the contributions of both mothers and fathers to their families and communities, the Father’s Day Council formed the National Mother’s Day Council, and the two groups incorporated to form the Father’s Day/Mother’s Day Council, Inc. This incorporated Council presents the Father of the Year Awards as well as the Outstanding Mother Awards each year. To increase awareness of outstanding fathers and mothers across the U.S., the Council formed regional Father’s Day and Mother’s Day Councils. The formation of these regional councils has enabled the Father’s Day/Mother’s Day Council, Inc. to focus on a second major goal: philanthropy. After making a first donation of $500 to Ronald McDonald House in 1978, the Council has since contributed over $37 million to a range of family-related charities nationwide, including support for organizations like the Macula Foundation, Alzheimer’s Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and the Mount Sinai Heart Center.
